This Privacy Policy explains how the Companies House Info mobile application (the “App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use it on iOS or Android. We have built the App to be privacy-friendly: it does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask you for your name, email address, or any other personal details.
1. Information we do not collect
We do not require registration or sign-in, and we do not collect or store:
- Your name, email address, phone number or postal address;
- Any account credentials (there are no user accounts);
- Payment or financial information;
- Your device contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera.
2. Information the App processes
Search queries. When you search for a company or officer, your search term (for example a company name or number) is sent to the Companies House public register in order to return results. These searches are used only to provide the results you request and are not linked to your identity.
Favourites. When you save a company to your favourites, that information is stored locally on your device only. It is not transmitted to us and we cannot see it. If you delete a favourite, or uninstall the App, that data is removed from your device.
3. Companies House data
The company and officer information shown in the App is public information obtained from the official UK Companies House register. We display this data as provided by Companies House and are not responsible for its accuracy, completeness or timeliness. Companies House Info is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Companies House or the UK Government.
4. Third-party services
- Companies House API — used solely as the data source for company and officer information. Your use of that data is subject to Companies House’s own terms and licensing.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — the App is distributed through these stores. Apple and Google may collect standard, aggregated download and diagnostic information in accordance with their own privacy policies. This is controlled by them, not by us.
- Crash & performance diagnostics — where enabled by your device platform, anonymous crash and performance data may be shared with the platform (Apple or Google) to help us keep the App stable. This does not identify you.
5. How the App uses permissions
The App requires internet access only, so it can query the Companies House register and return results. It does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or files.
6. Data storage and security
Because we do not operate user accounts or hold your personal data on our servers, there is no personal profile to secure. Your favourites remain on your device under the protection of your device’s own security. Searches are transmitted securely (over HTTPS) to the Companies House register.
7. Children’s privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. Your rights (UK GDPR / GDPR)
As we do not collect or store personal information that identifies you, we hold no personal data to access, correct or delete. You remain in full control of your favourites at all times: you can remove them within the App or by uninstalling it. If you have any questions about your rights, please contact us using the details below.
9. International users
The App queries the UK Companies House register. If you use the App from outside the United Kingdom, your search requests will be processed by Companies House in the UK.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
